Notes for Sylvester Amandus Farabaugh
Sylvester was raised in Allegheny Township, Cambria County, Pa. "Sam," as he was better known, moved to Altoona, Pa., in 1899, and went to work as a locomotive fireman for the Pittsburgh Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was promoted to locomotive engineer three years later and held that post until his retirement in June of 1947. He is listed as an engineer in several Polk Directories for Altoona, and his large family was raised there. He maintained his membership in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers for over 70 years.
