John and Eva were married in Germany and immigrated in 1873. They lived in Elmira, NY, for a year and then relocated to the north end of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. John worked for 41 years at the Dorrance Colliery of the Lehigh Valley Coal Company, retiring as a shaft headsman.
