Phillipina was from Baden, Germany, and lived near Tyrone, Pa., for about 45 years. She was an invalid for her last 30 years. She was “a christian lady and was a devout member of the St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.”
Notes for Philip (Spouse 1)
Philip arrived in New York City from La Havre, France, on the Isaac Bell, on April 3, 1854. He briefly went to Pittsburgh and ended up working at a large steam sawmill in Janesville, Pa. There he met Philippina, and in 1856 they were married in Hollidaysburg by Rev. Father Welsh. The couple soon settled at the German Settlement, near Tyrone, where they remained for most of their married life. Philip was a farmer.
