James and Gladys settled in St. Mary's, Pa. He served in the Army and Marines, and was a veteran of WWI. James also was a manager at the Singer Sewing Center in St. Marys for over 25 years, retiring in 1965. This is corroborated by his listing as a salesman for that company in the 1936 Polk Directory for Altoona and Hollidaysburg (listed as Loretto).

In the 1930 Census, Elsie was listed as the oldest of seven daughters, at 25, living with her parents along the Brick Road in Allegheny Township, Cambria County, Pa. She was issued a license to marry John J. Holmes in Manhattan, NYC, on October 23, 1943, but the subsequent marriage date is unknown.
