The Smiths settled at R.D., Loretto, Pa.

During WWII, Kathleen worked at the Fisher Aircraft facility in Cleveland. She then worked at a factory that made light bulbs in Trenton, N.J. After she returned home, she met Alfred Smith when they both worked at St. Francis College in Loretto, Pa. Kathleen also became a charter volunteer for the Loretto American Legion Auxilliary Post 748, and was its longest serving member. Kathleen has embroidered over 25 quilts and as a gardener is known for her vegetable soups. In her later years, Kathleen also was a cook at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Hollidaysburg, Pa.

Al was for many years the physical plant director at St. Francis College, Loretto, Pa. He served in the Army in WWII with the Army Corps of Engineers and Transportaion Corps in Iran. He also assisted at the war plants in Cleveland and New Jersey during the making of B29 bombers. After the war, he worked for the Farm Bureau and Agway.
