Lester served in the Students Army Training Corps during WWI. He and Grace lived in Cedar Rapids, Ia., and Wisconsin, where Lester worked as a sander at a piano factory and was a road crew laborer. His obituary indicated he worked for the railroad for many years before retiring from Commonwealth Edison.
